Skin Health Acupuncture:

A Whole-Body Approach to Healthier Skin

Your skin is your body's largest organ, and in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it often reflects what's happening beneath the surface.

If you're struggling with persistent acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, or other inflammatory skin conditions, you've likely tried countless creams, cleansers, medications, and skincare routines. While these treatments can be helpful, they often focus on managing the symptoms rather than addressing why the condition developed in the first place.

Skin Health Acupuncture combines the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern understanding of inflammation and skin health to help calm active flare-ups while addressing the underlying imbalances that may be contributing to them.

Rather than treating only the skin, we work to support your body's natural healing processes so healthier skin can develop from the inside out.

Looking Beyond the Surface

In Chinese medicine, skin conditions rarely begin at the skin.

During your consultation, we take the time to understand your complete health picture, looking for patterns that may be contributing to inflammation, including:

  • Chronic stress

  • Hormonal fluctuations

  • Digestive or gut health concerns

  • Food sensitivities

  • Poor sleep

  • Chronic inflammation

  • Allergies

  • Immune system imbalance

  • Environmental triggers

Because every person is different, treatment is individualized based on both your skin condition and your overall health.

Conditions We Treat

Skin Health Acupuncture may be beneficial for individuals experiencing:

  • Acne

  • Hormonal acne

  • Rosacea

  • Eczema

  • Psoriasis

  • Dermatitis

  • Chronic skin inflammation

  • Facial or body rashes

  • Itchy skin

  • Sensitive skin

  • Slow-healing skin

Whether your condition affects your face, scalp, hands, back, chest, or other areas of the body, your treatment plan is customized to your needs.

How Skin Health Acupuncture Works

Treatment focuses on both the visible symptoms and the underlying cause.

Depending on your condition, acupuncture may include local points placed around or near affected areas—a technique sometimes referred to as "surrounding the dragon." These points help improve circulation, support tissue healing, and calm local inflammation.

At the same time, body acupuncture is used to address the internal patterns that may be contributing to ongoing flare-ups. Depending on your individual diagnosis, treatment may focus on supporting digestion, regulating hormones, calming the nervous system, reducing inflammation, or strengthening the body's overall resilience.

Unlike cosmetic acupuncture, this treatment is designed specifically for active skin conditions. Because some modalities, such as facial cupping or facial gua sha, may aggravate inflamed or sensitive skin, they are generally avoided during active flare-ups. Instead, every treatment is carefully tailored to what is safest and most appropriate for your skin.

Our Goal

Healthy skin doesn't happen overnight, especially when inflammation has been present for months or years.

Our goal is to:

  • Calm active inflammation

  • Reduce redness and irritation

  • Support the skin's natural healing process

  • Decrease the frequency and severity of flare-ups

  • Improve overall skin health

  • Address the internal factors contributing to your condition

  • Help you achieve healthier skin over time

Many patients choose to continue working with their dermatologist while receiving acupuncture. Skin Health Acupuncture is designed to complement—not replace—your existing skincare routine and any prescribed topical or oral medications. If you are under the care of a dermatologist or another healthcare provider, we are happy to work alongside your treatment plan as part of an integrative approach.

What to Expect During Your Visit

Your initial appointment includes a comprehensive health consultation, an evaluation of your skin concerns, and your first acupuncture treatment.

During your visit, we'll discuss your symptoms, medical history, diet, digestion, stress levels, sleep, hormones, medications, and any environmental or lifestyle factors that may be contributing to your condition.

Every treatment plan is personalized, and recommendations may evolve as your skin improves.

Initial appointments are 90 minutes, while follow-up visits are 60 minutes.

What Is the Recommended Treatment Protocol?

Every patient's skin is different, so there is no one-size-fits-all treatment plan. Your recommended course of care will depend on factors such as the type and severity of your skin condition, how long you've been experiencing symptoms, your overall health, and any underlying imbalances identified during your consultation.

Because skin cells take time to renew and chronic inflammation does not resolve overnight, acupuncture works best as a series of treatments rather than a single visit.

In general, we recommend:

  • Active flare-ups: Weekly treatments to help calm inflammation, support healing, and begin addressing the underlying factors contributing to your skin condition.

  • As your skin improves: Treatments are gradually spaced farther apart based on your progress and treatment goals.

  • Maintenance care: Some patients choose occasional maintenance treatments to help support long-term skin health and reduce future flare-ups, particularly if they have chronic conditions such as rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis.

Your treatment plan may also evolve over time as your symptoms change and your body responds to care.

For the best outcomes, acupuncture is often combined with healthy lifestyle habits and, when appropriate, continued care from your dermatologist or other healthcare providers. Our goal is to complement your existing treatment plan while helping you address the root causes that may be contributing to persistent skin concerns.

Is Skin Health Acupuncture Right for You?

If you've been frustrated by recurring flare-ups, temporary improvements, or treatments that only seem to manage your symptoms, Skin Health Acupuncture offers a different perspective.

By combining local acupuncture with a whole-body approach rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, we aim to support healthier skin while improving the underlying balance of the body.

Whether you're experiencing acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, or another chronic skin condition, treatment is designed to help you feel more comfortable and confident in your skin.

Healing Skin From the Inside Out

At Eastern Roots Wellness, we believe healthy skin is about more than appearance. It is often a reflection of your overall health.

By looking beyond the surface and addressing the factors that may be contributing to inflammation—from stress and hormones to digestion and immune function—we strive to create meaningful, lasting improvements rather than simply covering up symptoms.

Our goal is not just clearer skin today, but healthier skin for the long term.
