A Natural, Whole-Body Approach to Healthier Hair Growth

Hair loss can be frustrating, emotional, and deeply personal. Whether you've noticed increased shedding, thinning around your temples or crown, widening of your part, or hair that's simply not as full as it once was, you're not alone.

At Eastern Roots Wellness, Hair Restoration Acupuncture combines Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern understanding of hair health to address both the underlying cause of hair loss and the scalp itself. Rather than simply stimulating the scalp, we work to identify why your hair is thinning in the first place and create a personalized treatment plan to support healthier hair growth naturally.

What Is Hair Restoration Acupuncture?

Hair Restoration Acupuncture is a specialized treatment that combines full-body acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, and plum blossom needling to encourage healthier hair growth and improve scalp circulation.

Unlike treatments that focus only on the scalp, Traditional Chinese Medicine recognizes that healthy hair reflects the health of the entire body.

Hair loss may be influenced by factors such as:

  • Chronic stress

  • Hormonal changes

  • Perimenopause and menopause

  • Thyroid dysfunction

  • Nutrient deficiencies

  • Digestive imbalances affecting nutrient absorption

  • Poor circulation

  • Recovery after illness or surgery

  • Autoimmune conditions

  • Genetics (where improving circulation and overall health may help support existing follicles)

Every treatment is designed specifically for your individual pattern of hair loss and overall health.

We Don't Just Treat the Hair—We Treat the Root Cause

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, hair health is closely connected to the body's internal balance.

Rather than asking only:

"How do we get more hair to grow?"

We also ask:

  • Why is the hair thinning?

  • What systems of the body may be contributing?

  • Is stress disrupting normal hair growth?

  • Are hormones changing?

  • Is digestion affecting nutrient absorption?

  • Is blood circulation reaching the scalp effectively?

Your treatment is designed to support both your overall health and your scalp, helping create an environment where healthier hair growth is more likely to occur.

What Happens During a Hair Restoration Acupuncture Treatment?

Each treatment includes three components:

1. Comprehensive Whole-Body Acupuncture

Your acupuncture treatment addresses the internal factors that may be contributing to hair loss.

Depending on your presentation, treatment may focus on supporting:

  • Stress regulation

  • Hormonal balance

  • Blood circulation

  • Digestion

  • Sleep

  • Overall vitality

This portion of the treatment lasts approximately 45 minutes.

2. Scalp Acupuncture

Specialized acupuncture points are placed throughout the scalp to encourage circulation and stimulate the tissues surrounding the hair follicles. These needles are inserted and retained with the whole body acupuncture portion.

3. Plum Blossom Needling

After your acupuncture needles are removed, treatment concludes with plum blossom needling over the affected areas of the scalp.

This portion of the treatment will constitute the last 15 minutes of the 60 minute treatment.

What Is Plum Blossom Needling?

Plum blossom needling (also called seven-star needling) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that uses a small handheld instrument with several tiny, very fine needles.

The instrument is gently tapped across areas of thinning hair to create controlled, superficial stimulation of the scalp.

The goal is to:

  • Increase local circulation

  • Encourage the body's natural healing response

  • Support the health of existing hair follicles

  • Complement the effects of scalp acupuncture

Most patients describe the sensation as light tapping or mild tingling rather than painful.

Your First Visit - Initial Treatment

Your initial appointment is more than just a treatment.

We'll spend time discussing:

  • When your hair loss began

  • How quickly it's progressed

  • Family history

  • Medical history

  • Medications

  • Stress levels

  • Sleep

  • Nutrition

  • Hormonal health

  • Lifestyle factors

We'll also perform a Traditional Chinese Medicine evaluation, including tongue and pulse assessment, to help identify patterns that may be contributing to your hair loss.

This allows us to develop a treatment plan that's tailored specifically to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatments will I need?

Hair grows slowly, so consistency is important.

Most patients begin with:

  • One to two treatments per week for 8–12 weeks

  • Followed by maintenance treatments based on your progress and goals.

Your treatment plan may vary depending on the cause and duration of your hair loss.

When will I see results?

Because hair grows in cycles, improvements typically occur gradually.

Many patients notice:

  • Less daily shedding within the first several weeks

  • Healthier-feeling scalp

  • Improved hair texture

Visible new growth often takes three to six months, though this varies based on the underlying cause of hair loss, your overall health, and consistency with treatment.

Does Hair Restoration Acupuncture hurt?

Most patients find the treatment very comfortable.

The body acupuncture needles are extremely thin—much finer than those used for injections—and many people relax enough to nap during treatment.

Scalp acupuncture may feel slightly more noticeable because the scalp is sensitive, but discomfort is usually brief.

Plum blossom needling is often described as a light tapping sensation.

Can acupuncture help all types of hair loss?

Hair Restoration Acupuncture may be helpful for many forms of hair thinning, including stress-related shedding, hormonal changes, postpartum hair loss, and some cases of age-related thinning.

Because every case is different, your initial consultation helps determine whether acupuncture is likely to be an appropriate option or whether additional medical evaluation is recommended.

Should I continue my other hair treatments?

Often, yes.

Hair Restoration Acupuncture can frequently complement treatments recommended by your dermatologist or primary care provider. If you're using topical medications or other therapies, we'll discuss how acupuncture may fit into your overall care plan.
